Les Talent Memorial Show - Celebrating the life of Les Talent

"I never had the pleasure of meeting Les, but his name always came up in the music community when bass players were mentioned. Earlier this year, GARY SCHUTT told me about Les’ amazing talents as a bassist and backup vocalist. When the time came to hunt for a bassist for DOCTRINE, Les was on a very short list to receive a phone call. Most, if not all of the guys in JON OLIVA'S PAIN were lifelong friends with Les and I offer my condolences to them and Les’ family. I too lost my best friend and band mate back in 1996, so I know exactly what the guys in J.O.P. are going through." - Tom

The amount of talent in one room to celebrate the life of Les Talent was simply amazing! An all-star cast consisted of:

MATT LAPORTE was kind enough to ask me to take part in the 1st public performance of both JON OLIVA and ZAK STEVENS reuniting on the same stage at the same time in how many years?!?!? It was an honor and a privilege to perform the SAVATAGE classics “Edge Of Thorns”, “Gutter Ballet”, “Believe” and then joining Jon & Zak was none other than Wade Black for “The Hall Of The Mountain King”. Three metal Gods simultaneously laying down the law! It was truly an honor, a privilege, a dream come true and a moment in time never to be forgotten. Not bad for Tom's first show in the United States. Thanks a bunch Matt!!!!!

DORIAN to release limited edition ProgPower USA VII version of "Sirens Scream" on ProgPower USA VII showcase CD. Slated to be track #2 on the 1st of 3 CD's, this track will differ from the version found on the DORIAN EP (TBA) in many ways, and will definitely be a collectors item.

DORIAN will be taking over the FLORIDA STATE THEATER towards the end of August for their debut music video "Sirens Scream". DORIAN have recruited GARY SCHUTT of SHUT UP PRODUCTIONS to direct, film, produce and edit the video. Running lights for DORIAN is the touring lighting director of MANOWAR, HOLY HELL and RHAPSODY OF FIRE. Regardless if the DORIAN DVD is distributed at ProgPower USA VII or not, it will be released on the official DORIAN MySpace page September 14th when the ProgPower USA VII Pre-party kicks off.

DORIAN places full page ad in official ProgPower USA VII event program guide. As many of you know, the ProgPower USA VII event program guide is a very highly sought after item, and is only available to ProgPower USA VII attendees in very limited quantities. The DORIAN advertisement does NOT include the final DORIAN artwork, instead, it features a ProgPower USA VII theme. Taking on the daunting task of creating the DORIAN logo will be artist Ron Berman of Berman Studios, Inc.

For those of you unable to attend ProgPower USA VII, the DORIAN ProgPower USA VII event program guide advertisement and the final DORIAN artwork will also be made available for free download on the official DORIAN MySpace page September 14th when the ProgPower USA VII Pre-party kicks off.

Most of the companies that endorse Tom are considered "boutique" because they are handmade and not the typical "off the shelf" type of product. This new endorsement is definitely a "crème de La crème" guitar amplifier. Details coming soon.

SHUT guitarists to headline JEMFEST on June 24th / film DVD

SHUT guitarists GARY SCHUTT, TOM and SHAWN BRIAN GREGORY will headline JEMFEST in Orlando Florida on June 24th.

JEMFEST is the largest guitar-based charity event in the world. This performance will be filmed for an upcoming JEMFEST DVD. MIKE MARTIN, guitarist of FOZZY will open the show.

Tom has been using SOLDANO © SLO-100© amplifiers for years, but it wasn't until June 2004 that Tom contacted MICHAEL J. SOLDANO JR. to say "thank you for the incredible tone". Once Mike found out that Tom was about to embark on a world tour and heard about some of Tom's future projects, Tom was immediately offered an endorsement.

Tom's relationship with GATOR CASES © began in June 2004 when he needed lightweight ATA flight certified guitar cases for a world tour.

The ONLY case on the market that fits this criteria is GATOR CASES © GPE © series. Using molded military grade Polyethylene and ATA hardware, these cases are ½ the weight of standard wooden flight cases and are virtually indestructible!

Needless to say, Tom completed the world tour without a single solitary scratch on any of his CHARVEL © guitars...or on the cases for that matter!

Tom is working with GATOR CASES © to possibly release a "signature series" that would combine features of both the GPE © and the G-TOUR © product lines.

Unfortunately, we can't say who it was sent off to just yet. However, we GUARANTEE you will know who it is soon, one way or the other!

What we can say is this, it was sent to a headlining world touring heavy metal band and the songs are VERY complex. Tom will definitely be raising the bar from his 2004 projects.
Once Tom learned about the "possibility" of this lead guitar position being available, he ran out and bought their newest double CD set that was released in early 2004 (hint?). Then, he chose the one song that had a combination of the hardest rhythm AND the hardest solo. What he did next went far beyond the call of duty, he re-recorded the entire song minus the vocals. Very impressive.

Update #1 - Tom will be meeting with the drummer of this mystery band Saturday January 22nd at NAMM. Lets see what happens.

Update #2 - Discussions with the drummer at NAMM went very well, now Tom will be meeting with the "6th member" of this mystery band the first week of March.

Update #3 - Tom had this to say. "Well, when I first started showing this song to some friends they said the solo was "too exact / perfect". So what Tom did was add a high harmony to the end of the solo and changed a note here and there. As if that wasn't enough, Tom shot a video for this song!

Update #4 - Tom met with the "6th member" on April 11th. Tom had this to say..... "Things went well, we will see what happens".

Update #5 - Expect this news story to be deleted and re-written at some point to reflect who this band is and expect to see a short video clip of the guitar solo.
